To Do: Summer Electrical Projects

Summer is officially here, and you might be thinking about where to start when it comes to home improvement projects. There are several inexpensive and simple summer electrical projects that will make your home more comfortable and energy efficient. In my years as an Atlanta electrician, I see many of the same recurring electrical projects that if done properly will improve a home’s comfort, safety, and efficiency.

Install or repair your ceiling fans

Have a room that never cools down? A fan that squeaks or a broken fan switch? Naturally, rooms that have high ceilings are more difficult to cool. As homeowners, we want to cool rooms as efficiently as possible to lower our electric costs. Warm air rises, and a ceiling fan helps circulate air in larger rooms to help your air conditioner work more efficiently. Installing a ceiling fan will make a difference. If your room has a higher ceiling you may need to purchase an extension rod.

Install Outdoor Lighting

Outdoor lighting can make your home’s safety and give it more curb appeal. Nobody wants to walk around the outside of your home feeling like they are in a black hole. Especially guests. Homeowners can also improve the security of their home and property by installing motion detecting lights. They can be a little tricky to set up initially, to prevent them from illuminating at every nearby motion, but the overall benefit is worth it in the end. These projects can be done in typically less a day by a homeowner with some electric experience and more quickly by your professional electrician. Of course, if you don’t have any experience with electricity you should call your local reputable electrician. Here is a full list of outdoor lighting we install:

* Front door lighting

* Garage lighting (exterior)

* Landscape/garden lighting

* Porch/Patio/Deck lighting

* Front walkway lighting

* Home exterior lighting

* Address numbers lighting

Convert your home lighting to LED

Converting your existing home lighting to LED can provide considerable savings on your monthly bill. Although LED light bulbs are more expensive than incandescent bulbs, their longer life more than makes up for it in cost savings. Simply said, LED lights don’t need to be changed as often. Between not having to change the bulb often and the lower amount of electricity an LED uses, homeowners can save a considerable amount of money by switching to LEDs. Conversion to LED, in many instances, is simple. To do so, you just need to replace your existing lights with the equivalent LED bulb. If you have a dimmer that controls yours lights, you may need to replace the dimmer with one that is designed for LED bulbs. To learn more about LEDs check out Energy Star.
